''When hard times come, they're never as hard as they look. That's a spiritual law all of us would do well to remember. At the onset, some problems look absolutely hopeless and insurmountable. But with a little change in our thinking they can shrink back to a realistic size.....''
-------Kenneth Copeland.
The global financial meltdown is having its negative impact on many individuals and households around the world. Corporate restructuring that is leading to job losses has become the order of the day. The crises knows no colour or race. It's affecting everyone.
Some have been asking: ''Why do I have to suffer for what I didn't cause?'', and some are questioning ''Why is the world unfair?''
As regional blocs, economic groupings and governments continue to make effort to reduce the negative impact of the meltdown, and forestall future reoccurence, the concern of individuals and households is to remain in or return to full employment. Household needs must be met, school fees must be paid, and mortgages must be serviced. And these are realities today.
But I'm optimistic that the recession won't be with us for too long, if we all do our bits to abate it. These are austere times that require us to prove our mettle.
I see the recession as an opportunity for us to look at our hidden potentials and tap into them for the benefit of not just ourselves, but also for the benefit of humanity. This could be the time for you to start your own business rather than look for employment elsewhere. It's easier to start a new business today in many countries because of the fallen costs associated with the factors of production.
Well, it's true that some businesses are either folding up or have folded up. But it's also true that new businesses are springing up. Carry out a feasibility study in your locality, and you would discover a need that you are equipped to meet. Start your own business and package yourself accordingly. It sounds easy, and indeed it is if only you will believe in yourself.
The marketplace as it is now, will only reward creativity, innovation, hardwork and tenacity. And you have those qualities. Don't you? Believe in yourself and don't give up.
And if you own a business already, you don't have to give in to the pressures mounting against your business. You must continue to explore all avenues available to you to keep that business going. Manage your overhead cost efficiently. Maintain self-discipline and enforce stricter control over your enterprise. Do the things you have to do as a Chief Executive and show courage. You will not fail and you will not go under. Believe in God and believe in yourself.
Go out there and show your mettle.
